The Identification Unit is responsible for maintaining the
photograph and fingerprint records of offenders arrested by the Lynn Police.
Detectives in the
Identification Unit are trained in forensic photography and respond to all major
crime scenes to photograph, document, collect and preserve evidence.
All detectives assigned to the
Identification Unit are experienced fingerprint technicians thoroughly trained
in the use of fingerprint powders, chemicals, and other equipment which is used
to develop and make visible latent fingerprints at crime scenes or on items of
evidence.
The detectives also compare latent
fingerprints with the inked fingerprints of known individuals and testify in
court as to the result of their examinations.
