On Saturday,
October 27, 2007, the 126th Annual Lynn Policeman’s Ball was held During his career with the Lynn Police Department, Sergeant Shinnick served fifteen-years as a patrolman, assigned to the evening shift. He exemplified route ownership, and provided community policing, to the East Lynn neighborhoods he patrolled. In 2001, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and currently serves as the Officer in Charge of the Traffic Safety Unit. Additionally, he is the department’s representative to the City Parking Commission, and the Traffic Commission. He is a department firearms instructor, a supervisor on the Special Response Team, and the department representative for the city of Lynn Communities that Care Program. Ned is also the department’s official “piper”. Over the last several years, he has become a talented bagpipe performer, and has represented the department at numerous events. During the ceremony, Chief John Suslak commended Sergeant Shinnick for his commitment to the Lynn Police Department, and to the citizens of Lynn. The Chief noted that Sergeant Shinnick’s character is a positive influenced on his fellow officers. ~~~~~ The Medal of Valor was presented to Officer Michael Kmiec, for saving a suicidal person, who attempted to light himself on fire. The Distinguished Service Awards were presented to Officer Michael O’Connell and Officer Michael Ferraro. Officer O’Connell was involved in a shooting incident. Officer Ferraro assisted with capturing a bank robbery suspect in Saugus. In addition to these awards, there were thirteen Commendations. ~~~~~ The 2007 Lynn Police Relief Association Scholarship was presented to Amanda Ruano, the daughter of Detective Geovanni Ruano. Sergeant Richard Riley of the Essex County Sheriff’s Department received a Community Service Award, for his work with the Lynn Police Department, and the city of Lynn.
