On November 1, 2007 at approximately 5:12 p.m., Lynn Police units responded to 38 Bennett Street, the Golden Lake Restaurant, on a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, Officers were directed to Cristian Martinez-Vargas, age (18), of 153 Chatham Street, Lynn, who was lying in the parking lot, and was suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper abdomen. Martinez-Vargas was transported to North Shore Medical Center, (Salem Hospital), where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The initial investigation has revealed that after dining in the restaurant with his girlfriend, Martinez-Vargas was involved in a dispute with several males outside the restaurant, during which time one of the males shot Martinez-Vargas with a firearm. After Martinez-Vargas was shot, the males fled the area on foot southbound on Bennett Street. The incident is believed to be gang related, and the investigation of Martinez-Vargas’ homicide is being continued by detectives form the Lynn Police Department Criminal Investigation Division, as well as Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
