On Saturday September 21,2013 four Officers from the Lynn Police Department will participate in a one day - 104 mile ride from the Springfield Mass Police Department to the Massachusetts Police Memorial located at the State House in Boston.

Lt. Marie Hanlon, Sgt. Glenn Dunnigan, Officer Ron Brown and Officer Pablo Figueroa will join a group comprised of 210 Police Officers, Firefighters, State Troopers, Federal Agents and law enforcement family members as they pedal their bicycles through the hills of Western Mass toward the Boston Marathon course and onto their final destination on Boylston Street - the Boston Marathon Finish Line.

The ride is being sponsored by the Springfield Police Department who began planning this ride well over a year ago in memory of one their Fallen Officers - Officer Kevin Ambrose. The ride is the brainchild of Sgt. John Delaney from the Springfield Police Department who reached out to the Lynn and Boston Police Departments for advice on planning the ride.

Several members of the Lynn and Boston Police Department had, for many years , participated in the annual Boston to DC bicycle ride to raise money for the construction and completion of a Police Memorial at the State House in Boston. Those rides took place from 1995 to 2004 when the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial was finally unveiled during Police Week in May of 2004.

Lynn Officer Pablo Figueroa is undertaking his first century ride this year as it has very special meaning for him. Officer Figueroa was a Springfield Police Officer for four years and had worked alongside Springfield Officer Kevin Ambrose, who was killed in the line of duty three years ago after responding to a domestic dispute.

This year's ride, dubbed "Ride to Remember or R2R " , will raise additional funds that will go entirely to the perpetual care of the police memorial in Boston.

The Lynn Officers were required to raise funds and acquire sponsorships as part of the ride with all monies going directly to the memorial fund. The Officers were able to raise over $2,000 thanks to the help and sponsorship of the Lynn Police Association, Lynn Police Relief Association, Lynn Police Credit Union, Lynn Police Health & Fitness Club, North Shore Cycles and the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home.

They will dedicate this year's ride to the four fallen officers from the Lynn Police Department that were killed in the line of duty: Officer James Carroll, Officer Francis Quinn, Officer Andrew Tufts and Officer Gary Twyman. They will also be remembering Lynn native and FBI Special Agent, Paul Cavanaugh, who was tragically killed in the line of duty while on special assignment.

Our intention is to reach out to the survivors & family members of these Lynn Officers and welcome them to join us in Boston as we ride from the Marathon Finish Line up to the Police Memorial for a ceremony commemorating their ultimate sacrifice.
