From: Lieut. Dave Brown Date: August 15, 2007 Subject: Estes Street Shooting
On Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at approximately 11:43 P.M., Officers James Daley and Richard Courtney responded to 10 Estes Street, on a report of a shooting. Upon the officers’ arrival, they were directed inside the residence. There they located a gunshot victim, who was identified as Nelson Perez, age 61, of Lynn. Nelson Perez, who was seated in a chair, suffered from an apparent gunshot wound to the area of his right front hip. Officers provided medical attention, until the arrival of Lynn Fire and Atlantic Ambulance. Perez was subsequently transported to Massachusetts General Hospital. His injuries were considered non-life threatening. As of this morning, it was reported that Perez was to be released from the hospital. The initial reports indicated that Perez was outside in front of 10 Estes Street, when he was allegedly approached by a young male, who shot him. Afterwards, he made his way back to the residence. At this time, the circumstances surrounding this shooting remain unclear. The incident is under investigation with Detectives Thomas Mulvey and David McEnaney, who are assigned to the Lynn Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Identification Detective Howard McCollin processed the scene for evidence.
