Date:                August 2, 2007

Subject:            Robbery

On Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at approximately 8:20 P.M., Officer Steven Castle was on patrol on Harding Street, which is located off of the Lynnway. He was approached by a hysterical female, who claimed that she and her boyfriend were just robbed at gunpoint. After calming the female down, she was identified as Maria Suarez, age 18, of New Haven, Connecticut. The boyfriend was identified as Moises Valentin, age 29, of New Haven Connecticut. They were also with another friend, Miguel Martinez, age 20, of New Haven Connecticut. The individuals reported coming to the Lynnway Auto Auction located at 732R Lynnway, in order to purchase vehicles.

Upon arriving, they parked on Harding Street, and met a person who identified himself as David Rustan, supposedly a car dealer. According to Moises Valentin, he had approximately $20,000 with him, in order to purchase vehicles. After viewing several cars, and leaving the rear of the auction, they walked back to their car on Harding Street. At which point, they were approached by two white males. One allegedly placed a silver handgun to Maria Suarez’s stomach, and  threatened to shoot her, as he demanded money from Valentin. The other white male allegedly displayed a knife. Valentin complied with their demands, and handed over all of his money.

It was also reported that the suspects proceeded to grab David Rustan, and force him into the vehicle that he arrived in, which was parked near Valentin’s car. The suspects then drove off down the Lynnway in this vehicle, which was described as an early 1990 light colored, Ford Crown Victoria, unknown registration. The front directional lens of the vehicle was described as being shattered.

The first suspect was described as a white male, approximately 45 years-old. He had blond balding hair, and was approximately 6’00” tall, with a thin build. He was wearing a dark colored tee shirt, and was allegedly in possession of a silver hand gun. The second suspect was described as a white male in his thirties. He was described as tall and very skinny, with blue eyes. He was wearing a white shirt, and allegedly in possession of a knife.

During the course of the investigation, officers spoke with Auto Auction Security, and were informed that they were not familiar with a dealer by the name of David Rustan. Officers later learned from a third party, that David Rustan, was supposedly thrown from the vehicle, and at an unknown hospital. Lynn Police provided a BOLO, and a teletype regarding the incident to surrounding communities in the Boston area. At this time, the incident is under investigation with Lynn Police Detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division.
