7-Eleven Installs State-Of-The-Art Security System in Lynn, MA, Store
World’s Leading Convenience Retailer Deploys Newest Hi-Tech Equipment To Help Reduce Crime, Enhance Security
LYNN, MA (Aug. 1, 2007) – 7-Eleven, Inc. will introduce a state-of-the-art, in-store security system during a news conference Monday, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m. The event will be held at the 7-Eleven® store located at 264 Essex Street in Lynn. Designed to deter crime and create a more attractive shopping environment for 7‑Eleven customers, the new security system features the latest interactive technologies that make it possible for offsite security personnel and store employees to interact with each other in real time. The real-time feature provides an added element of security and support to store personnel, especially during late-night hours. Setting the system apart from previous security systems is new software and hardware enabling the local police department to have real-time monitoring and communications capabilities with store employees. “Before this latest technology was installed, simultaneous real-time monitoring with the police was almost unheard of at the retail level,” said 7-Eleven Northeast Division Loss Prevention Manager Jim Dale. “We think monitoring activity in our parking lot and the surrounding areas of our store could potentially deter crime. This system is monitored by a third-party, private security firm, but through the new technology, the Lynn Police Department personnel can also view store activity at their convenience. The new security system features high-resolution, audiovisual cameras and recording with long-term data retention. Information and images captured on the system’s recording device can be stored in the system and available for law enforcement officials to review at a later time. “This is the first interactive system of its kind installed in 7-Eleven stores in the northeast,” Dale said. “We think this is a great tool to help us promote environmental safety in and around our store.” 7-Eleven currently plans to install the real-time security systems in its Malden and Holyoke in the coming months. “Our goal is to operate clean, safe and convenient stores as we work hard to meet the needs of our customers,” Dale said.
