Commonwealth Rafael Morales
On 03/14/2008, Rafael Morales 49 years old of Chelsea was arraigned at the Lynn District Court. The charges included Filing False Insurance Claim, Attempted Larceny and Falsely Reporting the Theft of Motor Vehicle. The complaint alleged that on 03/10/2007 a Toyota owned by Rafael Morales was found burning in the borough of the Bronx in New York City. The vehicle was later adjudged a total loss. On 03/11/2007, Morales reported the theft of his vehicle to the Lynn Police Department. He reported that he had last seen the vehicle on 03/10/2007 at 1830 on Mabel St Lynn MA. Morales made the same claim to his insurance company, OneBeacon. OneBeacon conducted an investigation regarding the nature of the alleged theft, Morales’ activities in New York City around the time of the alleged theft and other matters. OneBeacon Insurance Company denied Morales’ claim. The insurance company then referred the claim to the Insurance Fraud Bureau of Massachusetts. The Insurance Fraud Task Force of Lynn consisting of investigators from the IFB and the Lynn Police Department conducted a further investigation that resulted in criminal complaints. The case is on going.
