Subject:            Motor Vehicle Accident

 

            On Friday, July 27, 2007, at approximately 1:20 A.M., Lynn Police and Lynn Fire responded to 848 Western Avenue on a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. Upon the officers’ arrival, they discovered a female lying face down in the street. She appeared to suffer from serious head trauma, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. The victim, Shirley Bennett, age 48 of Lynn, was treated at the scene, and transported to Massachusetts General Hospital. At the time, her injuries appeared to be life threatening.

            The initial investigation revealed that the operator of the striking vehicle fled the scene, towards Summer Street. The suspect vehicle was described as a blue or green Jeep Cherokee. As a result of the accident, the vehicle may have front end damage. Sergeant James Shorten coordinated events at the accident scene. Lynn Police Traffic Accident Investigator John Meaney, and Massachusetts State Police Trooper Joseph Foglietta conducted the accident investigation. Lynn Police Identification Detective, Howard McCollin and State Trooper Michael O’Connor, assisted with crime scene services.

The circumstances surrounding this accident remain under investigation. If anyone has information, please contact Officer John Meaney at 781 595-2000. As of 12:30 P.M., it was reported that Shirley Bennett was to be discharged from the hospital.
