Subject:            July 20, 2007 / Shootings

 

            On Friday, July 20, 2007, at approximately 11:14 P.M., Lynn Police were dispatched to Sheridan Street on a report of gunshots. As officers were responding, dispatch informed them that a gunshot victim was in the area of Chestnut Street and Essex Street. East Lynn Street Supervisor, Sergeant Edward Nardone was the first on scene. He discovered two victims of apparent gunshot wounds, lying in a driveway on Chestnut Street near Ashton Square.

One of the victims, Tony Somboun, age 22, of Lynn, suffered from a gunshot wound to his arm. The other victim, Chhandroeun Chen age 18, of Amesbury, suffered from a gunshot wound to the area of his neck. The victims were treated at the scene, and transported to local hospitals. Chen’s injuries were considered life-threatening.

            The initial investigation revealed that the shooting occurred on Sheridan Street near Chestnut Avenue. The victims then fled the scene on foot towards Chestnut Street, where officers located them.  Chestnut Street was blocked to traffic for an extended period of time, as police and fire officials tended to the wounded.

The shooting is under investigation with Lynn and State Police Detectives. Anyone with information is asked to contact Lynn Police Detective Stephen Pohle at 781 477-4319 or Lt. Detective Stevens at 781 477-4322. At this time, there is nothing to indicate that this incident was related to the shooting which occurred in West Lynn, at approximately 10:50 P.M.

On Friday, July 20, 2007, at approximately 10:50 P.M., Lynn Police responded to the area of Cottage Street and Morris Street on a report of gunshots being fired from a motor vehicle, described as a white Volvo. Police quickly saturated the West Lynn area, and conducted a search for the suspect vehicle. Additionally, officers were informed that shots were being fired from the vehicle, as it traveled near the G.E. on Western Avenue.

Officers Robert Avery and Mark Nerich located the Volvo which was traveling off of River Street. They conducted a felony motor vehicle stop with the assistance of other officers. The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrests of: Marasophat Chan age 17, of Lynn; Richard Pouk age 19, of Lynn; Norain Truong age 17, of Lynn; Justin Williams age 18, of Lynn; Lynn; Juvenile male age 14, of Lynn; for assault and weapons charges.
