From: Lieut. Dave Brown Date: July 18, 2007 Subject: Taxi Inspections
On Tuesday, July
10, 2007, and Wednesday, July 11, 2007, the City of Lynn conducted its annual
taxi and livery vehicle inspections. These safety inspections were requested on
behalf of city of Lynn Clerk Mary Audley, and conducted at the city of Lynn
Department of Public Works garage. This inspection process involved the verification of proper taxi and livery licensing and registration requirements. Additionally, the vehicles were checked for major and minor safety violations. Vehicles with minor infractions such as: tire conditions, light defects, interior and exterior body conditions and wipers were immediately repaired and re-inspected. If a major safety violation was discovered, such as defects to ball joints, tie rods and control arms, it resulted in the issuance of a safety rejection sticker. The vehicle was immediately removed from service, and upon being repaired, subject to re-inspection. At this time, all vehicles have been re-inspected, and are in compliance. Only two livery vehicles owned by Jose Ventura, failed to comply with inspection requests. City Clerk Mary Audley said, “Without the assistance of the Lynn Police Department, and the Registry of Motor Vehicles, we would not be able to ensure that the citizens of Lynn are afforded the luxury of driving in a safe taxi.” A total of 37 livery and taxi vehicles were inspected. Of the 37 vehicles, 13 passed with out any violations, 14 vehicles failed for minor violations, and 10 vehicles failed for both types of violations.
