From: Lieut. Ted Blake Date: June 16, 2008 Subject: Increase in Police Presence
Since Thursday, June 12, 2008, the Lynn Police Department increased the number of officers on the street to combat the increasing level of gang violence and related crime. This increase in officers has been supplemented by several agents from outside agencies such as the Mass. State Police Gang Unit, Essex County Sheriff’s Department, Division of Youth Services, Juvenile and Adult Probation and Salem Police Department. Three federal agencies, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), have sent agents to help with this initiative. This does not include arrests made between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m.. More importantly, this operation was successful in getting five (5) handguns off the street.
