From: Lieut. Dave Brown Date: May 11, 2007 Subject: Prom Season Driving Awareness Project
Over the past several months, Officer Robert LeBlanc of the Lynn Police Department’s Traffic Unit, has been working in conjunction with LPD School Resource Officers, the Lynn School Coordinated Health Department, faculty and students from: LVTI, LCHS, LEHS and St. Mary’s HS, on a prom season driving awareness project. This project which was well received by participants, will act to remind students what can happen if you drink and drive, or don’t wear a seat belt. A Pontiac Sun Fire which was involved in an auto wreck with a tractor trailer is planned on being displayed outside the various Lynn High Schools over the next week. The vehicle will be placed in a highly visible area for the entire student body to see upon entering and exiting the schools. This vehicle was chosen because of its sporty look, and the fact that it is still operable. Additionally, signs and other displays will be utilized to remind student drivers to buckle up, and don’t drink and drive. Pledge poster boards of students signatures who promise not to drink and drive during this prom season will also be displayed. This awareness program will kick off at LVTI on Monday, May 14, 2007. The vehicle will be displayed at the various schools on the following dates:
LVTI Monday, May 14th St Mary’s Tuesday, May 15th LEHS Thursday, May 17th LCHS Tuesday, May 22nd
We would like to thank: Flemings Towing, Premier Insurance, Adesa Auto Scrap Yard, and Voyagis Tux Rentals for their participation in this project.
