Subject:            Firearm Arrest

On Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at approximately 5:35 P.M., Detective Geo Ruano was on patrol in an unmarked police vehicle in the area of High Rock Street. Detective Ruano, who is assigned to the Lynn Police Gang Unit, was monitoring the activity of a group which was previously dispersed by police, from the area of Rogers Avenue and Lawton Avenue. As these individuals were walking up High Rock Street and approaching Rockaway Street, Ruano observed a Hispanic male exit a yard on High Rock Street, and quickly walk towards the group. Detective Ruano noticed that the male party was holding what appeared to be a black handgun.

Ruano stopped his vehicle approximately ten feet from the individual. This person allegedly turned towards Ruano, raised his arm, and pointed the handgun at him. Ruano was still seated inside the vehicle. He quickly exited, and tactically rolled to the rear of the unmarked cruiser seeking cover, and he ordered the person to drop the weapon.

The suspect still with the weapon in hand, fled towards the yard he originally exited from. Ruano radioed for assistance, as he pursued the party on foot through several backyards. Additional units quickly saturated the area, and Officers Michael Gorman and Frank Gomez located him on Johns Avenue.  Officers were also able to recover the loaded .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun, which had been discarded in a yard. The suspect was identified as a 16-year old juvenile from Lynn. He was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Lynn Police Station. He was charged with delinquency by reason of:

DBRO Possession of a Firearm with out an FID

DBRO Unlawful Possession of Ammo with out an FID

DBRO Assault with a Dangerous Weapon to wit Handgun

DBRO Disorderly Conduct

DBRO Trespassing
