On Friday, April 27, 2007, three Lynn Police Officers were honored during the annual awards banquet of the Irish American Police Officers Association of Massachusetts, (IAPOA), which was held at the Burlington Marriott.
Detective Mark Lee, a (19) year veteran of the Lynn Police Department, received the Meritorious Service Award for his actions on June 11, 2006, in rescuing a suicidal individual threatening to jump from the rocks at High Rock Tower. Officer Michael McHale, a (6) year veteran of the Lynn Police Department, received the Lifesaving Award for his actions on March 2, 2006, in rescuing residents of a Euclid Avenue address from a fire to their home. Officer Robert Avery, a (5) year veteran of the Lynn Police Department, received the Honorable Mention Award for his actions in delivering a baby in the rear of a vehicle at the Lynnway Shell Station on January 1, 2006. Incorporated in 1999, the IAPOA is a member of the National Council of Law Enforcement Emerald Societies, and has 900 members statewide. The goals of the organization are to develop a spirit of brotherhood amongst its members, sponsor social events and charitable events, work with civic and public safety associations, and bring Irish Americans in Law Enforcement together.
