The Lynn Police Department Detective Division has been recognized by the NYPD Detectives’ Endowment Association with a Certificate of Appreciation for its efforts in locating a suspect who has been charged in connection with a highly publicized home invasion in Manhattan in 2011.
On October 3, 2011, four armed men entered the townhouse of socialite entrepreneur George Bardwil in the exclusive Turtle Bay section of Manhattan and tied up Bardwil and two guests. Bardwil is the CEO of Bardwil Home Inc. and it referred to as the NY “Linen King”. The suspects then took over $300,000 in cash and jewelry and fled. Three suspects were arrested shortly after the incident, however, a fourth suspect remained at large. The incident received extensive coverage in NY media outlets.
Lynn PD Detectives were then contacted by NYPD Manhattan Robbery Squad investigators who advised that a Giovanni Campana, age (30), was the fourth subject wanted in connection with the robbery. Further information suggested that Campana had several close relatives that resided in Lynn and Lynn PD investigators conducted extensive surveillance of several addresses and conducted several interviews. In one of these interviews, it was learned that Campana was possibly in custody at a correctional facility in upstate NY. This was confirmed and Campana has since been charged in connection with the Bardwil robbery. He was recently sentenced to eight years in prison for his role in the incident. All four defendants charged have now been convicted in connection with the matter, and one defendant received an (18) year prison sentence.
